How to Get Proof of Address Without a Utility Bill
Options for tenants, students, people living with family and recent movers who need address evidence but do not have a utility bill in their own name.
If utilities are included in your rent or the bills are in someone else's name, begin by asking the recipient for its alternative-document list. Missing a utility bill does not mean you should create one.
Check documents you already receive
Look for a bank statement, eligible tax or government correspondence, or a current tenancy agreement. Whether these work depends on the specific application. For UK bank-account applications, HSBC publishes alternatives and explains that people without the standard documents may have other options, sometimes limited to a Basic Bank Account.
If you live with family or friends
Do not assume another person's utility bill proves your own address. Explain the living arrangement and ask whether the recipient accepts a host's document with additional evidence. Request its precise instructions before collecting another person's private records.
If you are a student
Ask whether an official university letter confirming your accommodation is eligible. A course enrolment email and an accommodation confirmation are different documents. The letter should reflect your actual living arrangements, and the recipient may require a specific format.

- Ask when an updated official statement or letter can be issued.

Can I get free proof of address in the UK?
You may already have access to a suitable electronic statement without ordering a paid copy. Check your issuer's terms: replacement documents, certified copies or postage may cost money. “Free proof of address” is therefore better understood as finding an existing eligible record, rather than obtaining a universal free certificate.
What does “instant” really mean?
An existing document may be available immediately, but an address update, new statement or verification review can take longer. Ask the recipient about urgent alternatives and realistic review times. Paying an unrelated seller for a fabricated bill does not solve a missing-evidence problem.
